History:

Started as a small chain of independent record shops in west London in 1977. The first band that the label signed was ‘The Lurkers’ whose first release with the label was their song Shadow / love story.

They stem from the Beggars banquet record shop whose first shop opened in Earl’s court, London in 1973. They were spurred by the prevailing DIY aesthetics which was at the height of its popularity in 1977, the shop’s founders (Martin Mills and Nick Austin) decided to become an independent label and release records as Beggars Banquet Records.

Beggars group have worked with bands/artists such as: Bauhaus, Biffy Clyro, Buffalo Tom, The Charlatans, The Cult, The go-betweens, The National, St Vincent, Radiohead, Queens of the stone age, Adele and Tindersticks

In 2002, they purchased a 50% stake in Matador records. In 2007, they purchased Rough trade records.

7. My understanding of the conventions of my genre

-Independent bands and artists

-Genres such as alternative rock, punk rock and new wave

-Narrative based song

-The beggars group record label has been associated with genres such as punk rock, new wave and alternative rock as well as being closely linked to independent bands and artists

-My chosen song for my music video 'Make you feel better'' was originally created by a band that has been associated with punk rock. The genre of alternative rock could relate to the beggars group as it emerged from the independent music underground of the 1970's,* the same decade that beggars group were founded

-To achieve the element of a narrative based song, my music video will need to contain and follow a story that links to and follows the lyrics of my chosen song.

Task 11: Developed ideas

I will need 3 performers for my video. I may however, require a fourth person to help with filming especially for shots that contain all 3 actors.

Story plan - 3 friends going away together, either a road trip or just a casual day out.

Disruption to equilibrium - one of the 3 friends gets hurt and they have to settle down for a short while - could be where an additional actor plays a part, in order to meet the exam brief.

Task 13: Location recce

My plan is for the majority of my video to be filmed at Ashton court as it will be easily accessible for myself and my actors. However, I may also end up filming part of my video at Weston super-mare, most likely along the seafront. There is also a small area at school in a wooded area which I may use.

Task 12: Casting

My plan is for the performers to be myself, Luke Welsby and Lewis Furlong, 2 classmates.

In order to meet the exam brief and incorporate 2 different types of people I may be required to have an additional actor, such as a parent, in a short scene.

My idea at the moment is for my additional actor to be Ahmed Hassan - another classmate.

Task 14: Costume / make-up plans

Myself - Dark causal shirt, cargo shorts, light grey vans shoes

Luke - Denim jacket, chino trousers or shorts, T-shirt with illuminati and angel statues on

Lewis - grey casual shirt, white t-shirt, blue jeans, vans shoes
